We all have built green houses for our exotic plants sometime before but the green house of the future is not for our plants. The future green house is a house that uses less energy and is capable of producing clean electricity by itself! How else do we not make our house produce electricity since it is sitting under the sun half a day’s time? Solar panel for the roof! Solar panel for the walls! Yes, and more, even the pavements can be covered by solar panels. But the solar panels are not made of silicon! It is made of polymers and is transparent. It is flexible and does not crack and it can even be printed on. There goes the wonder of the new solar panel. You can throw away those old green panels of yore. The new panels are even cheaper to make, and before long, you will have every thing encapsulated with it and produces its own energy. There might be an over dose of electricity even!
Welcome to advances in polymer sciences. It is now possible to make solar panels transparent and flexible and at an even lower cost than those that makes commercial solar panels using silicon. It might even be possible to make it in your own home! The prediction is that houses will have transparent roofs make of flexible polymers. But how then do you shade yourself from strong sunlight. Well, of course you can put another layer of protective panels to absorb the heat and light. But even radiated heat can be again reuse for energy generation. Thanks to the world being consumed in turning every thing green, polymer solar panels will be with us sooner than you think. The clothes that we wear will be covered with a layer of flexible solar panel so that we become active producer of energy every where we go. If the sun shines brightly, it will even be better. But in case you are complaining of hotness, well, you can always use the electricity generated to run an “air-conditioned” covering.
